Happy New Year! I hope you are well on your way to accomplishing that list of goals you set for the next 365 days. If you are a university dairy student in the Western United States, you won’t want to miss this! The American Dairy Science Association officially established the Western Region this fall, and we are excited for all of the opportunities it will bring to students in the West in 2011.
My involvement in ADSA—both as the president and as a member—was the highlight of my college career, and I’m very excited to bring the educational, leadership and networking opportunities available through ADSA-SAD regional meetings to our outstanding dairy students in the West. The meeting will be held March 5-6, 2011, in Fresno, Calif., immediately following the Western Regional Dairy Challenge competition at the same location.
If you are interested in participating, let your advisor know! Registration forms, membership information, rules and regulations for all contests and a list of Western Region officer/advisor responsibilities are posted on the ADSA-SAD Web site at www.adsa.org/sad under Regional Meetings and Western Region. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact us at WESTERNadsa.email@example.com.
Stay tuned for more information on this exciting new region!
Here is a quick preview:
Saturday March 5
The meeting will kick off with the career symposium after the Dairy Challenge banquet on Saturday afternoon. During the career symposium, students will meet with dairy industry professionals in a roundtable format to discuss career and internship opportunities. If you are involved in research, you won’t want to miss participating in the Research Paper Presentations. Cash prizes are awarded for all competitions. The Regional Officer Candidate Pizza Party Mixer Saturday evening will introduce the region’s first group of officer candidates. Students will get to know all of the candidates during a fun game after the meal.
Sunday March 6
Participants reconvene Sunday morning for officer and advisor elections, followed by the Activities Symposium and Awards Brunch. The Activities Symposium is an opportunity to showcase your club’s favorite event and learn more about what other clubs are doing. The Outstanding Western Region student and advisor will be announced at the Awards Brunch, along with all other award winners and the new officer/advisor team.
