The state of California is divided into districts, each with its own Dairy Princess. We all do our part to represent the dairy industry in our area. I am the District 5 Dairy Princess so I cover San Joaquin, Sacramento, Yolo, El Dorado, Contra Costa , Alpine and Amador counties. All year I have been going to schools giving presentations on how we get our milk, taking a calf to farm days, and going to fairs. I have also done other things like Ag Day at the Capitol and I attended a Stockton Thunder Hockey game promoting the dairy industry. One of the messages I have been trying to get across to people is that dairies are excellent recyclers. I explain all the by-products we feed that normally would be thrown away, as well as how we recycle manure and can now use methane for fuel and electricity. We also post blogs on the real California milk website where we tell of events we attend as well as life on the farm. If you want to check it out go to www.realcaliforniamilk.com and go the the people section. I'm amazed at how people are so discontectd with agriculture and by being the Dairy Princess I am trying to get people more informed about the dairy industry and its importance to everyone.
