With free cow traffic, cows are free to move around the barn – from the feed fence to the robot, the cubicles and water troughs – without interruption from fencing or selection gates. Experiences and observations of many farms around the world show that free cow traffic is the basis for successful robotic milking.

By allowing the cow to make her own decisions, both comfort and productivity are optimized. The cows make their own choice for either resting or being milked or fed, ensuring maximum performance for all cows.

But what makes the cow decide to visit the robot?

Hear from one Lely team member as he explains a few of the basics when it comes to robotic milking and why, for good robotic management, it’s very important that cows visit the robot on their own.
