The month of May we celebrate moms everywhere.  While the actual holiday of Mother’s Day is just over a century  old in the United States, celebrating motherhood dates back to ancient Egypt, several goddesses and of course, Christianity’s ultimate mother, Mary.

The MMMs…Moms, Mary and May.  Thanks to our moms, we wouldn’t be here without them.  Let’s take Mary’s Month and be sure to thank our moms for putting up with us.  Honestly, our terrible twos didn’t end there.  They probably carried right on through our teens and happen to still pop up now and then.  Our mothers still put up with us, continue feed us, and never stop loving us.

Aside from deities and Mary, there is another type of mother of all, farm moms.  They get up before the sun, run a household, a business and have that special mom touch.  It’s hard, there are tears and bad meals from time to time, but farm moms everywhere are the heart of rural America.

Have a farm mom you love and can say it in less than 300 words?  Monsanto is honoring farm moms everywhere with their Farm Mom of the Year Contest.  The contest ends this Mother’s Day, so you have less than a week to say thank you to that special farm mom who keeps the crew going.  Through planting, calving and harvest, she’s there for us.  Thank you mom!

Thanks Emily! I hate to be another Michigan blog, but with a state full of diversity an ddairy as our #1 ag sector, I guess we have lots to talk about.  As a Farm Broadcaster, my hope for Behind the Mic is to share what doesn't make it on air, and a bit of my farm life and encounters.  I'll sure to share my dairy and general ag stories with Proud to Dairy!  It's a great network :)
