Good morning from the rolling hills of southwest Wisconsin! I have the unique opportunity to educate the future leaders of the dairy industry through my off farm part-time job. Just 5 minutes up the road from our farm sits the campus of Southwest Tech. It is here that I am an adjunct instructor in the dairy herd management program.
One thing I strive to do every year is help my students network and learn about the dairy industry around the world. We are all share an important role in this large industry, but we farm and do things differently pending on where our farms are located. Through connections locally my students and I Skyped with a dairy farmer in New Zealand just before the holidays. A number of my students also participate in the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin mentorship program. An idea I have to help the students connect and learn about dairy farming throughout the country is to set them up with a pen pal.
That's where I need your help. I am looking for 16 farmers or people in the dairy industry to email back and forth with the students. My goal is to have communication take place 2-3 times a month between February and April. If you are interested, please message me here on PTD with you name, email address, and a little bit of information about your farm. I will then pair you up with my students and have them send out the first email.
Thanks for reading and taking the time to consider helping me educate the future leaders of the dairy industry. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
