Posted on June 28, 2010 at 12:15pm 0 Comments

It's always fun to give out prizes for a contest. The hard part is that there is only one first place. We had a great response at the polls, 243 votes, and the final numbers were really close. In fact we had a tie for third place. Without further adieu, here are the final results for Contest 2010.

First place goes to Leslie Ann Batistich, who won the Proud to Dairy engraved iPod nano.

Second place goes to Katherine… Continue

Ohio Farm Bureau is a proud advocate

Posted on June 14, 2010 at 9:30am 1 Comment

Everyone likes an advocate, especially if they are advocating for you. One advocate group has repeatedly earned its reputation of helping farmers. Ohio Farm Bureau (OFB) has been instrumental in working with farmers across agriculture to promote ag, advocate for farmers and lobby legislation to improve farming; not hurt it. Most recently OFB had their hands full dealing with media asking questions about the Mercy For Animals footage that was taken on an Ohio… Continue

Dairy Goddess aims to connect to consumers through social media, farmstead cheese

Posted on May 14, 2010 at 10:00am 3 Comments

The Dairy Goddess label hasn't always been attached to Barbara Martin, though many people know her as that now. Before she became the social media diva for the dairy industry, Martin actually ran through some horrible luck… Continue

Hi, Ryan, thanks for the welcome! Sorry for the delay in answering--when you wrote me in February, I was dealing with snow. Now, I'm tilling and planting garden. Things are great here in Arkansas! I was connected with this group by my best friend whose family has a Brown Swiss dairy. I don't have a cow/any cows yet, but am working towards that. I'm on an old fixer-upper single-family farm that I'm trying to restore and get back up and running again! Right now we mainly produce eggs for sale and garden produce.

Hi Ryan-

Actually, I have been meaning to get signed up for awhile, have read about it in PD and heard great things from those that participate! Happy to be here! Do you have a dairy background?

Hi Ryan,
I am familiar with proud to dairy through Penn State and Dairy Challenge. Emily Caldwell has introduced me to the website. I grew up on my family's dairy farm in Franklin County, PA. We are currently milking 115 registered Holsteins. I earned my bachelors degree in Animal Sciences at Penn State University last May. After graduation, I returned to my family dairy farm where I am still working along side my father as herd manager, etc... I do not currently have show cows of my own, however, I enjoy showing and I am working toward having a show herd one day. I am also a member of Farm Bureau and active on the Franklin County Dairy Princess board. What is your story? How are you involved in the Dairy Industry?
